Submission Guidelines

Punctuation and Spelling

Use American (U.S.) punctuation and spelling except for quotations.
Use italics for book titles, etc. Do not use bold or underlining.
Use only one space after terminal punctuation marks.
Use en-dashes for inclusive numbers or dates and em-dashes in place of double hyphens.
Retain original spelling and punctuation in quotations from early modern sources except for the long ‘s’. Do not modernize.
Use block quotations (set off by 5 spaces) for two or more lines of verse and for five or more lines of prose.
All other quotations should be integrated into the text (run in). Use the three-dot method for ellipses. See the Chicago Manual of Style 15th Edition for details.
For drama and poetry, give complete citation information in a note on the first use. For the second and all subsequent citations use in-text parenthetical citation.
Use Arabic numerals for all drama and poetry section citations.

Endnotes

Place note superscripts at the end of the sentence to which they apply.
Group all citations for a single sentence into a single note.
Include ACCURATE page numbers for quotations of all works other than poetry or plays. Please proof your references.
Use notes for all prose sources including primary sources.
Any acknowledgment note should be set as an unnumbered note at the top of the endnotes.
Do not indent notes.
Include complete bibliographic information in the first note for each cited work: author(s), editor(s), or author(s) and editor(s); full title (including subtitle); place of publication; publisher; year; total number of volumes if a multivolume work; translator and/or compiler if applicable.
Do not include URLs for electronic sources (for this issue only).
Do not include a separate bibliography.
Spell out periodical titles at their first citation and abbreviate thereafter.
