In the spring of 2021 an international recipe book transcribathon was organized by the Early Modern Recipes Online Collective using two recipe books from the Wellcome Collection and Royal College of Physicians. The recipe books were commissioned by two gentlewomen, Lady Ayscough and Lady Sedley around the end of the 17th century, neither of which had been analyzed before in detail through the transcription process. In doing so, parallels and contrasts in recipe knowledge could be drawn out and patterns in recipe types could be detected, particularly those aimed at women. Julia Nurse reveals some findings.
